Stragglers.org - credits and technical information

Credits

First must go to Colin Penn for setting up the first incarnation of the Strags website. A lot of the content of the site now is based on Colin's original work.

All Stragglers for support and encouragement.

Your webmasters, originally Ben and now Mike Bangham.

Jim Desmond who keeps the race results page up to date.

Chris Glew, who maintains the women's page.

Your contributions are welcome

What we want now is feedback! Comments criticisms, thoughts and ideas are all welcome; as is anything you would like to see included. Race results, reports, tales of your amusing exploits and photos to prove it... If it's in electronic form just email me with it. (see Contacts) Real pieces of paper with writing on, photos etc. can be given to Mike Bangham on a Thursday. Thankyou for your support.

Technical information

Thanks to Web toolz for submitting us to the major search engines

Our website is hosted by HostingUK, and is served from a Windows Server 2003 platform. At present it is a primarily static site, though as the webmaster's experience grows this will change. The handicap results table is script generated from a datafile using Perl - this makes it easy to keep up to date.

The following tools are used to maintain this site:
Pentium P200 running:

    • Linux Mandrake 7.0 Windows 98

Software:

    • Windows Notepad
    • CuteHTML
    • CuteFTP
    • Perl 5 for both Linux and W98
    • Paint Shop Pro 6.01

No proprietary website design tools have been used, just good old fashioned typing. In fact there's so much plain text here and so few images you could probably view it on your WAP phone if you had an hour or so.

No animals were used in the testing of this site, though the cat did sit on the keyboard a few times.
