You are welcome to come and run with us without being a member to make sure you like it; see the Training pages for details of where and when we meet. When you do want to join us, this is a quick and easy process.

How to Join

To join, you simply need to send us your name, contact details, date of birth, and whether you belong to any other clubs. There are 3 choices for how to do this:

1. Add the details to the text field on PayPal (see below).
2. Or fill in the document below (the non-shaded parts of the doc) and post to the membership secretary at the address below with a cheque.
3. Or email details to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  and pay using PayPal or by Cheque.

You will get an email version of your membership card. If you want a hard copy of the Stragglers one, we can post this to you or you can get one most club nights.

Your membership fee includes affiliation to England Athletics; when you join Stragglers we will submit your details to them and you will receive a membership number and card from them. This provides you with a discount on the entry fee for many races, and you need to be affiliated to run in many championship events in the road and cross-country races. You can choose to opt out of this if you do not intend to participate in any of these races.

(if you opt out of EA affiliation, deduct £5 from this; this doesn't apply to under 11s, or indeed to dogs).

Who can join?

We have over 550 members of all ages. Membership is available for children of members who must accompany them on runs on all club nights. We do not offer any coaching or training facilities for children, though there is a Junior Handicap on summer handicap nights run entirely within the grounds of the Hawker Centre.

We also have membership for dogs who proudly wear their own club kit on runs.

When to join

Our membership year starts 1st April, and your membership fee covers you until the next 1st April, however long that may be. New members joining from February onwards will get membership for the following year.

Members of other running clubs

Second claim members (i.e. first claim members of another running club) are welcome; fees are as above minus the £5 EA affiliation.

If you are a first-claim Straggler and wish to leave the club to compete for another club, UK rules state that you have to provide us with written confirmation of this.

Membership Cards

You can use your membership card to get discounts at some shops. We prefer sending you one of these via email (which you print off), but if you prefer a copy through the post please indicate on the form.

Privacy

We will not pass on any of your details to any third parties apart from your basic details for EA registration, and we will only store details as long as you are a current member. We will include your email address on a group distribution list for occasional club announcements; please specify on the membership form if you do not want this.
