Summary (by Ian Callander)

Firstly, a big vote of thanks to Nick Brown for pulling the whole thing together and ensuring that we actually had more than enough runners on the day.

52 teams were classified as finishers, with the 'Stragtastic' team finishing 4th overall (is this a best-ever finish for an official Strags team?) and the 'Swernova' (sic) team finishing a creditable 29th.

Wayne Smith posted the fastest overall time of the day for the long leg with a time of 29m 52s - 35 secs clear of the next-fastest runner. Jess Peterssen made it a Strags double by posting the fastest Ladies long leg time of the day in 33m 12s - 41 secs clear of her nearest rival - well done to both of you!

A special mention to Simon Webb, who not only set the fastest short-leg time for the 'Swernova' team on this undulating parkland course, but would have gone even quicker if Nick had been able to keep up with him (Nick was obviously saving himself for the Main Event, Beating Bushy's Bounds, later in the day...)

The Runnymede Relay is a very friendly and well-organised event, and to be recommended to anyone who hasn`t included it in their schedule before. It usually suffers from being scheduled a day before one of the Surrey Road League races, but if it avoids that clash again next year, and Stragglers could put out an even stronger line-up, this is another event we could hope to win. We finished 4m 19s behind this year's winners, Sandhurst Joggers - does anyone else think that, with the right team, we could make up that deficit? I reckon we could.

The rest of the Strags performed as follows:

Team 'Stragtastic' (4th overall)
Leg 1 (long) - Rob Tyman - 34m 29s
Leg 2 (short) - Steve Sandham - 17m 46s
Leg 3 (long) - Wayne Smith - 29m 52s
Leg 4 (short) - Ian Callander - 17m 25s
Leg 5 (long) - Jess Peterssen - 33m 12s
Leg 6 (long) - Simon Brazil - 17m 28s

Team 'Swernova' (29th overall):
Leg 1 (long) - Dave Griffiths - 38m 42s
Leg 2 (short) - Jim Sell - 23m 24s
Leg 3 (long) - Peter Wedderburn - 43m 27s
Leg 4 (short) - John Greaves - 22m 07s
Leg 5 (long) - Steve Annett - 39m 23s
Leg 6 (short) - Simon Webb/Nick Brown - 20m 48s
