River Relay – Charity Wins!

Return to Home

Throughout its history the River Relay has had one aim - to give the profits from the event to charities nominated by the competitors. Over the past six years we are proud to have given over £4,500 to charity from the race. To achieve this we strive to keep race costs kept to a minimum so that as much money from the race is available for charity. The prize fund for this year’s (2004) race is a record £1,500.

Following deductions for the Sweepstake, Tombola and memorial prizes money is allocated as follows:

  • Winning Team 50% of prize fund*
  • Second Team 33%of prize fund
  • Third Team 17% of prize fund

In 2004 £525 was set aside for the Sweepstake Prize (for the club best predicting their finish time); four Tombola Prizes (drawn at random for teams not winning one of the other prizes) and MacMillan Nurses and Cancer Research. These two charities were selected in perpetuity to receive money from the River Relay following the death of Tim Adam (Stragglers) and Peter Allan (Staines Strollers)

The charities to benefit this year’s from the race are:

  • £500 to Jenner Ward Trust Fund at Northwick Park Hospital nominated by Straggler's Ronnie’s Runners.
  • £333 to The Terrence Higgins Trust nominated by London Front Runners A Team.
