Stragglers undeterred on hottest day

With temperatures forecast to hit 27 degrees it was a vest day for the many Stragglers racing on Sunday. Over 30 members completed the Ranelagh half marathon in Richmond (a Summer Grand Prix event) where our four fastest women - Maddie Garner, Claire Curtin, Sonia Bandeira and Lex Prince - won the team event.

Jim Lurkins was the first club member home in a time of 1:17:56 and 19th place, followed by Pete Gregorowiski (1:19:39) and Oliver Bowers (1:21:11). Maddie was the fastest woman with a time of 1:28:05 and a finishing place of 124th and 6th woman. Claire wasn't far behind with a time of1:32:37, followed by Sonia (1:32:45) and Lex (1:36:14). Lex picked up the prize on behalf of the team.

There was a good turnout of volunteering Stragglers

Just down the river, Ruth Cole finished first among six Stragglers completing the Hampton Court 10k including a number of last year's Couch to 5k graduates. And further west still, three club members raced in the Staines 10k with Roy Reeder the first home in 43:39.
