The weekend saw the club deliver another successful annual event as 63 teams completed the River Relay. ERR & RAN Wombats were the first team home in a time of 2:45:38. The fastest Stragglers team - Snow Leopards - finished fifth with Scott Singleton bringing the team home, after runs by Alex Willson, Austin Molnar, Claire Curtin and Andrew Simpson. Peter Wedderburn become the first Straggler to win the summer handicap series for a second time after a strong performance in the final event on Thursday. Peter finished second in a time of 27:52 behind Jacky Sinclair (29:50) who was first home. Sophie Elloy was third in 27:55. Phoebe Law made the podium in her first half Ironman triathlon, having been the fastest competitor in the run segment. Phoebe who was competing in the Wimbleball Lake Triathlon, finished 3rd woman and 20th overall in a time of 6:04:10. On the other side of the world, Stragglers were competing in the Sydney marathon. Lisa Bailey and Pavel Przepiorski have won the Summer Grand Prix, both having almost scored maximum points in their best six events. Lisa was one point short of the maximum 210 points having finished behind Sarah Holt in the final event, the club 10k, while Pavel scored 208. Lisa overtook Lex Prince after the final event, Lex having finished with 199 points. Tracey Lenthall was third with 194 points and all three were part of a hugely competitive W45 age group. After postponments due to the summer heat, the club 10k finally happened on Thursday night although an unexpected closure of Kingston Bridge caused travel problems for a number of participants. Last Thursday’s Memorial relays was our final summer tourism event with over 100 runners participating despite the extraordinary heat. Pete Gregorowski was the fastest runner on the night, finishing his leg in 06:24, while Sophie Biggs was fastest woman in 07:00. A record handicap entry of 95 runners took part in the 4th event of the 2026 series, held on Thursday. First across the finish line was Rachel O'Gara-Lu, in a time of 33:40, followed by Chrissie Glew (31:35) and Paul Butler (26:22). Lucy and Andy Hoseason completed the iconic Alpe D’Huez triathlon and both finished in under 10 hours. Andy finished in 9:52:47 while Lucy clocked in at 9:58:44. Andy was ranked 124th in his age category while Lucy was 12th. Chapeau to both!

The Stragglists became the latest club group to host a summer tourism event last weekend. Those who attended were able to find out about the technicalities of riding in a group and were shown how to use Spond to plot routes, before being given an opportunity to participate in a number of short rides in Bushy Park. Over 150 members either raced or volunteered at last Friday’s Wedding Day 7, helping to make it a fabulous occasion. Thanks to the immaculate planning by Tracey Lenthall and Pavel Przepiorski, as well as fantastic support from the wider team, the event was almost faultless. Simon Mumme and Lisa Bailey were rubbing shoulders with some of the country's top runners at the Battersea top flight 5k on Wednesday evening. Simon produced a large PB to finish in 16:57 while Lisa's time was 17:31. Both were competing in Friday's Wedding Day 7k.

Over 60 members attended the club's Annual General Meeting (AGM) last Thursday, the first AGM since the club became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). Chair Kevin Price opened the meeting with a report on the past 12 months highlighting the club's many successes including the delivery of our ever-popular big events, the Cabbage Patch 10, Wedding Day 7, Green Belt and River Relay. There were more accolades for Sophie Biggs this month. At the weekend Sophie was first woman and second overall at the Big Heat trial marathon in Petworth, finishing in a time of 4 hours 17 seconds. And on Monday it was announced that Sophie was the inaugural winner of Up & Running Teddington's Club Runner of the Month competition. Congratulations Sophie! Mob

While many of us were looking for new ways to stay cool this weekend, some Stragglers were out pushing themselves on some of the hottest days this summer. Dean Morley completed the 100k Race to the Stones in 13:34:53 along the Ridgeway. Dean won his age group V60. In Kent Ian Riley set a new PB of 28:40 at the Mid-Kent 5 miler, while David Curtin (41:03), Nicole Hamilton (42:30) and Oscar Murphy (49:27) all completed the London 10k.

There were plenty of takers for the Imber Court relays enabling the club to field 15 teams, all of them named after a World Cup team Brazil, our fast women’s team, were more successful than their footballing counterparts, taking the women’s title. The Claygate 5 saw another huge turnout for the club with 62 members racing. Pavel Przepiorski was our first finisher in 29:40 followed by Kieran Parker in 29:46. Stragglers took five of the top 10 finishers with Austin Molnar, Ian Riley and James Ruskin all finishing in under 31 minutes. Stragglers made the most of the long summer nights to do some racing during the week. Ian Riley, Ben Osborn and Mark Hacker all competed at the Reigate Priory AC Summer 10k, and finished as third-placed men's team. On Friday a number of Stragglers sampled Ranleagh's new event, the 3k sunset sprints, while those looking for something more challenging headed for Epson for the famous Perch race. The second summer handicap saw Helen Nance take the honour of being first to finish in a time of 37:44. The first three finishers were all women with Kim Dell'Anno and Jacquie McLelland, second and third across the line. The fastest man was Pavel Przepiorski who finished in18 minutes while Phuong Hoang was fastest woman in 20:55. Rob Allen took the prize fro being closest to his estimate having finished in 26 minutes. 65 members completed the 5k race.

Step aside Harry Kane, Stragglers have their own scoring heroes as Sophie Biggs and Donovan Duffy notched up hat-tricks at the Wimbledon Trail series, winning their age groups in all three races. In the final 8k race Sophie and Donovan were joined by Malcolm Fletcher and Sarah Bell who also won their age groups. Sophie finished the series as second woman.

Our running members weren't the only ones seeking out challenges last weekend as some of the Stragglists were out pushing themselves in the warm weather. Dave Venter and Dave Strange both participated in the 100k Dartmoor Classic, completing the gruelling ride in 5:56:40 and 5:56:25 respectively. Congratulations to both!
