Relay teams deliver at a hot Imber Court
There were plenty of takers for the Imber Court relays enabling the club to field 15 teams, all of them named after a World Cup team Brazil, our fast women’s team, were more successful than their footballing counterparts, taking the women’s title. Lisa Bailey, Nicky Hornzee, Jo Ritson and Phoebe Law finished fourth overall, and Phoebe produced the fastest leg of any woman. Argentina were our second fastest team. Ian Riley. Stragglers turn Claygate yellow
The Claygate 5 saw another huge turnout for the club with 62 members racing. Pavel Przepiorski was our first finisher in 29:40 followed by Kieran Parker in 29:46. Stragglers took five of the top 10 finishers with Austin Molnar, Ian Riley and James Ruskin all finishing in under 31 minutes. Long summer nights mean more racing
Stragglers made the most of the long summer nights to do some racing during the week. Ian Riley, Ben Osborn and Mark Hacker all competed at the Reigate Priory AC Summer 10k, and finished as third-placed men's team. On Friday a number of Stragglers sampled Ranleagh's new event, the 3k sunset sprints, while those looking for something more challenging headed for Epson for the famous Perch race. Handicap win for Helen
The second summer handicap saw Helen Nance take the honour of being first to finish in a time of 37:44. The first three finishers were all women with Kim Dell'Anno and Jacquie McLelland, second and third across the line. The fastest man was Pavel Przepiorski who finished in18 minutes while Phuong Hoang was fastest woman in 20:55. Rob Allen took the prize fro being closest to his estimate having finished in 26 minutes. 65 members completed the 5k race.

Sophie & Donovan our hat-trick heroes
Step aside Harry Kane, Stragglers have their own scoring heroes as Sophie Biggs and Donovan Duffy notched up hat-tricks at the Wimbledon Trail series, winning their age groups in all three races. In the final 8k race Sophie and Donovan were joined by Malcolm Fletcher and Sarah Bell who also won their age groups. Sophie finished the series as second woman.

Daves double down on Dartmoor
Our running members weren't the only ones seeking out challenges last weekend as some of the Stragglists were out pushing themselves in the warm weather. Dave Venter and Dave Strange both participated in the 100k Dartmoor Classic, completing the gruelling ride in 5:56:40 and 5:56:25 respectively. Congratulations to both!

Stragglers seek out weekend challenges
This weekend saw some Stragglers tackling very different challenges. Roger Wilson took silver at the British Orienteering Sprint Ultravets Relays in Bristol running for the South London Orirenteers. Roger brought his team home, running the third leg (2.6km) in 18:26. Facing a somewhat longer distrance four Stragglers completed the North Downs 30k in Kent, which attracted nearly 400 participants. Stragglers face off to weekend heat
Despite the sweltering heat this weekend, Stragglers were out in force at various races. Over thirty members tackled the Richmond 10k where our women's team of Lisa Bailey, Joanne Ritson, Harri Daniel and Lucy Chambers took the women’s title, while the men’s team of Simon Mumme, Jim Lurkins, Matthias Werner and Austin Molnar finished third. Weekend made for racing
Weekends are for running if you're a Straggler, and this weekend saw club members find a number of ways to indulge their passion. A large number of members were at Old Deer Park where the club took on Ranleagh with a parkrun-based mob match. Ranleagh just pipped us on the numbers 75 to 61 and claimed fastest man and woman. Best Welsh Castles result for 7 years
Last weekend it was time for the club's annual trip to Wales to participate in the Welsh Castes Relay as our 20 runners plus their rhyfeddol (amazing) organisers Robert and Heather Hodge headed to Caernarfon for the 2-day, 20-stage race. The team finished 44th out of 65 teams in a time of 24:33:35 - the club’s best time since 2019. Lisa shines in Swansea
Lisa Bailey produced a season’s best representing England Masters at this weekend’s Swansea Half. Lisa finished first in VW45 and 10th overall in 77:22. She is second in Uk rankings for VW45 in the HM behind our own Sarah Holt.

Second handicap a win for Denis
Over 70 Stragglers competed in the second of the 5k handicap series on Thursday with Denis Mustafa crossing the line first. Pavel Przepiorski was the fastest runner in the Open category, finishing in 17:34 while Phuong Hoang was fastest woman in 20:20. After two events Jess Saulet leads the rankings with 35 points but there are still three more events, with scores based on the best three results. The next handicap is on Thursday 2 July.

Mighty mid-weekers
There were some strong performances at mid-week races on Wedneday. A large crowd of Stragglers competed at the Wimbledon Trails race which was a Summer Grand Prix event. Alistair Hall was our first finisher in 14th position with a time 30:11 while Sophie Biggs was our fastest woman and third overall in a time of 33:15. Open Day proves popular
The club hosted its first ever Open Day at the weekend, inviting members and local residents to take part in a group run and meet with some local running specialists including experts in biomechanics and gait analysis, to yoga for runners, sports massage and running-focused PTs. Stragglers tackle the Cornwall coast
Stragglers women tackled some of Cornwall’s challenging coastal paths in last weekend’s The Trail Pursuit St. Agnes Trail Runs. Pamela McHutchon and Leoni Thomas completed the half marathon distance while Jo Newstead and Carol Sloan ran the 10k and Chrissie Glew did the 5k. Warrior women take on the heat
While many Stragglers were taking easy or at least running a little slower in the heat, some of our warrior women were taking it on and racing this weekend. Green Belt teams finish strongly
Our Stage 22 runners in the Green Belt Relay finished strongly, capping a weekend of good performances and excellent planning by Josh Ingold and his team captains. Oli Bowers finished 4th, Freysen Maritz was 10th and Lucy Chambers finished in 18th. Good day at the office for GBR teams
Stragglers had a good day at the Green Belt relay on Saturday with our Open Men's team finishing the first 11 stages in 8th position overall and 4th in their category, while the Women were 3rd in the category and the Super Vets were 2nd. England calls for Pam and Harri
Pam Whitter and Harri Daniel represented England in the international 10K at Bideford on Sunday. Pam was second in FV65, finishing in 44:45 while Harri was sixth in FV45 in a time of 40:08. It was a challenging course , with both wind and hills to contend with on the main road out and then back on the scenic Tarka Trail . Congratulations to both.
