Saturday afternoon at Painshill looked like a Stragglers invasion, as over 40 yellow-vested runners pitched up at closing time to compete in the Cobham Festival of Running. With more Summer Grand Prix points at stake, no one was put off by the heat - 24 degrees - or the hilly, 10k course around the gardens.
With so many Stragglers competing, the club was always going to do well but no one could have predicted quite so many members to leave with a trophy. Seven of the first 10 finishers were Stragglers with Roy Reeder first over the line in 42:52, followed by Laurence Duffy in 43:08. Lex Prince was first woman home and third in 43:31 followed by Nicky Hornzee in 43:53.
Steve Smith, Chance Rowan and Malcolm Davies completed the seven and won their respective age groups. Other age group winners include Claire Curtin, Libby Ferguson, Malcolm Fletcher and Merilyn Davis.
