A weekend of shorter runs

Last weekend it was all about the 5k. With no XC to distract our competitive runners, everyone seemed to chasing 5k times.

In total 225 Stragglers completed a parkrun on Saturday at one of 59 separate parkrun events. Nearly half of those Stragglers stayed close to home and ran at Bushy but the club was represented far and wide across the parkrun map with Phil Davies finishing 31st at Y Promenâd parkrun in 23:02 while Ian Peggs was 17th at Wanaka in New Zealand in 24:02. Ramona Thevenet had a brush with royalty when the King visited Sandringhan parkrun to see her finish 11th in 27:24.

There were many strong performances including Ian Riley (22nd at Bushy), Tracey Lenthall (2nd Hilly Fields) and Rob Eveson (4th at Bracknell), but Pam Whitter’s 21:03 at Battersea stood out, as it gave her a stunning 99.29% age grading.

Other noteworthy 5ks included the efforts of

Sam Hawthorn (17:59), Adam Davies (19:17) and Chance Rowan (19:55) who all raced in the Serpentine final Friday of the month 5k.
