Final handicap delivers thrilling finish

The last of the summer 5k handicap series ended with a bit of drama as Sophie Elloy rose from third to first place to claim the 2025 title, having scored just 11 points in her best three events.

Sophie finished ninth in the final race on Thursday evening, with Gail Caruana the winner on the night. Emma Davis was the fastest woman with a time of 21:35 while Pete Gregorowski was fastest man in 17:31. Emma claimed the runner spot in the overall series with 28 points while Adam Davides took third place with 38 points. Tina Sheppard took the hero award for being the highest place runner who took part in all five events.
In all four runners completed all five including Tara while a further 20 completed four of the five races. A total of 161 runners took part in at least one handicap event in 2025, beating last year's record participation by 10.
