Surrey XC season ends on a high

The Surrey XC season ended this weekend with the women racing at West Horsley Place and the men at Lloyd Park, with horrendous mud at both courses. Undeterred, both teams produced strong results with the women finishing sixth on the day while the men finished ninth, thanks in part to a superb second place finish by Rhys Doherty.

Sarah Holt led the women home, finishing 14th in 33:05, followed by Eliza Hawthorn in 26th (34:40) and Sophie Biggs in 34th place (35:27). Nicky Hornzee and Nicole Hamilton also scored for Stragglers A. It was good to see both Sarah Winter and Sarah Kinsella racing again after injuries.

At Lloyd Park Rhys produced another strong performance after a half marathon PB last weekend, finishing in 28:06. Jim Lurkins was second finisher for the team and was placed 51st (32:29) while James Ruskin finished 77th in 33:45. Mark Pattinson finished second in his age category of V65 in a time of 39:10.

The results meant the women finished sixth in Division 1 after the four matches, while the men finished eighth in Division 2. Thanks to all who turned up to race and congratulations to everyone who competed this season.
