Lisa retains Richmond title and crowned Surrey champion
Lisa Bailey retained her title as first woman at the Ranleagh Half Marathon, taking nearly two minutes off her 2025 winning time. Lisa finished in 23rd place in a time of 78:31. Simon Mumme was our first finisher in 16th position and 77:14. The event was doubling up as the Surrey Half Marathon Championships, meaning Lisa also took that title and won her age group in the county championships. Handicap heights for Heather
Our summer handicap series started on Thursday and almost broke the record for participation with 87 runners completing the 5k. Heather Hodge was the overall winner, finishing in a time of 30:16, followed by Wing Chung Kwan and Lynton Nicholson. Lisa Bailey was fastest woman, flying round the course in 16:58 while Oli Bowers took the prize in the Open category with a time of 16:48. Alex Willson was also a winner having predicted his finishing time exactly.

Age group glory at Wimbledon
There was age-group glory for Stragglers racing in the first of the Wimbledon Trail Series. Donovan Duffy won MV50, finishing in 32:43, while Sophie Biggs finished as third woman and won WV50 in a time of 32:51. Andrew Roberts was also a winner taking MV60 in 34:47. James Ruskin was the first Straggler to finish in a time of 30:23 and 11th place. Weekend of miles for Jo and Rachel
Warm weather created challenging conditions for our weekend racers. Jo Taman travelled to Southampton to complete the half marathon and finished as 31st woman in a time of 1:45:19. The race was a warm up for the marathon distance which Jo will be tackling in Cape Town. While Jo had to contend with a high of 20 degrees, Rachel Simpson was racing in Prague where the temperature peaked at 28 degrees. Mighty marathoners make it memorable
There were 31 Stragglers (that we know of) running the streets of London yesterday, giving those who went up to support, a steady stream of yellow vests to cheer. Leading the pack was Sarah Holt who set a new PB of 2:37:46, finished 12th among the women at the mass start and won her age group. Latest Couch 2 5K draws big crowd
Our latest Couch to 5k programme opened on Tuesday with a great turnout - 27 out of the 37 who had registered for the 8-week course. And almost half of them turned up for the second session on Thursday at Bushy Park Sports Club, which doesn't always happen due to the distance between the two locations. Stragglers revel in SGP and Guernsey sun
The Summer Grand Prix continued this weekend with a sunny Sutton 10k acting as the second event in the series, attracting a big, yellow crowd as 26 members competed. Oli sets a high bar with marathon PB
Oli Bowers wiped more than 10 minutes off his marathon PB at Newport this weekend, finishing 7th in 2:29:18. Five Stragglers travelled to Wales for their Spring marathon. Jim Desmond finished in 3:08:49 with Duncan McConnell right behind him in 3:08:52. Roy Kemp (3:26:37) and John Taylor (3:55:58) also competed. More weekend warriors
While some of our members were completing the Brighton Marathon on the roads this Sunday, Sophie Biggs was tackling the Trail version. Sophie finished second despite breaking her hand in a fall half way round the course. She still finished in a time of 3:46. In France Liza Houghton was also racing over 26.2 and produced a PB of 3:24:28 at the Paris Marathon. Marathon season ramps up
The Spring marathon season ramped up this weekend with members racing from Milan to Brighton. David Sheldon was in Italy - raising funds Kingston Hospital's neo-natal unit - and completed the 26.2 miles in 3:16:51, while Freysen Maritz notched up a PB in Linz when he finished in 2:59:52. Morden sees another mighty mob
The Summer Grand Prix launched on Saturday with a mob match against the Wimbledon Windmilers at Morden parkrun. Proving how much we enjoy a mob, 69 Stragglers travelled to Morden park while the Windmilers fielded 44, giving the club a volume victory. Junior group is up and running
Last Thursday saw the launch of the new Junior Running group aimed at 12-17 year-olds who want to build their skills and enjoyment of the sport. We had three enthusiastic participants but are hoping for a few more now that the Easter holiday is over. Pamela and Merilyn earn England vest
Pamela McHutchon and Merilyn Davis will both don an England vest this year after strong performaces at the Forest of Dean Trail half marathon which was a British Masters qualifying race. Pamela finished first in F65 with a time of 1:57:05 while Merilyn finished in fourth place with a time of 2:02:57. Pamela was also an age group winner in the British Trail Running Championships. Pavel and Nic crowned WGP winners
After 12 events over seven wet winter months, the Winter Grand Prix is over and Pavel Przepiorski and Nic Douglas can be crowned as the winners of the Open and Women's events. Pavel topped the Open rankings with a maximum of 175 points from his five scoring events, ahead of Peter Gregorowski (171 points) and Austin Molnar (166). Lisa tackles top flight 5k
With a number of major marathons fast approaching, many members were tapering this weekend. Lisa Bailey wasn't one of them. Focusing on shorter distances this season, Lisa was at the Top Flight 5k at Battersea where she finished third in 16:52, a new PB. Lisa also set her previous BP - 6:58 - at Battersea last July. Slightly closer to home Oli Bowers competed in the Fulham and Putney Half Marathon. Oli won the event, finishing in 1:15:14.

Cranleigh wraps up the Winter Grand Prix
There was a large turnout for the final event in the Winter Grand Prix, the Cranleigh 7-14-21. T he shortest distance proved to be the more popular one with members but the club put on a good show over all three distances. Pavel Przepiorski was the first finisher over the shortest distance, completing the seven miles in 41:37. Marathoners deliver big results
Our mighty marathoners delivered some big results over half the distance this weekend. Tony Finn led the way, notching up PBs on both Saturday and Sunday (1:32:42 and 1:28:34) having done back to back halves in Prague and Berlin. In doing so Tony completed his Super Six. Andy Anstey (1:37:07) and Alfonzo Pereira (1:41:30) also competed in Berlin. Tony is targeting London and Alfonzo will return to Berlin in Setember. Stragglers enjoy the fine weather
Stragglers were out in force this weekend enjoying the fine weather at races, long Sunday runs or their local parkruns. The biggest race was the Surrey Half Marathon in Woking where the club was represented by seven members. Oli Bowers was the first to finish in 33rd position and a time of 1:12:15, while Sarah Holt was our fastest woman, finishing second in 1:15:35. Lisa Bailey was fourth in 1:18:31. Stragglers tackle the longer distances
It was another weekend of longer distance races this weekend, with many members tackling half marathons. Some didn't have to go too far with another Hampton Court Half happening on Sunday. Simon Connolly was the first Straggler to finish in 1:17:56, followed by Adam Davies in a time of 1:28:51.
